Downtown - 1

The buildings on Main Street in downtown Independence, Kan., including the Booth Hotel, glow with the light of the setting sun.

  1. Nick, you are making me fascinated with Independence, KS. I did a little checking, and find it has the same population (about 10K) as the ‘small rural New England town’ I live in. But while Woodbury covers 36 square miles, Independence is packed into just five. We have no downtown, no multi-story commercial buildings. Independence looks more like some of the larger Connecticut towns (populations between 30K and 40K) where I make a lot of the pictures that wind up on my blogs. I’ve never set foot in Kansas, but you’re making me want to get there with a camera.

The atmosphere in your evening afterglow shot is lovely.

    • I believe that probably rates as the highest compliment that anyone has ever given my work. Thank you.
